Zero Carbon Bill consultation launch 7 June 2018

Consultation is underway for the Zero Carbon Bill.

The Minister for Climate Change James Shaw set out the scope of the Bill shortly after midday On 7th June.

The consultation will ask New Zealanders to have their say about how we transition to a low-emissions, productive and resilient economy that all New Zealanders can thrive in. The Zero Carbon Bill aims to set in law a new emissions reduction target for New Zealand. We are asking your feedback on key elements of the Bill including how ambitious we are, and how fast we go. The Zero Carbon Bill provides the building blocks for a planned transition over the next 30 years, in a way that is just and fair for all New Zealanders.

On 7th June after midday, we will release further information about the Zero Carbon Bill’s proposals at, including how you can provide your feedback.
