The Next Transition Towns event: Tuesday 1st July

Public Talk

Tuesday 1st July,

Time: 7.00 – 9.00 pm ish

Place: Kapiti Community Centre, Ngahina Place, Paraparaumu

Event hosted by Phil Malpas of Otaki Transition Towns:

For those who attended the last documentary, at the end of the meeting Phil Malpas spoke about some of the issues we are facing today and his concern about how the public participation in democracy is low. As promised, he has organised this event as a follow up to those concerns:

Amanda Vickers (From Transition Towns Paraparaumu and spokesperson for Positive Money NZ – positivemoney.org.nz) will give a short 10 min talk about how money is created in our economy and how this system is broken, creating inequality and worsening indebtedness. Amanda will be standing as an independent in the upcoming elections, aiming to raise awareness of this issue (see www.amandavickers.co.nz )

Phil will follow with information about these and other key issues we face in our society, the interaction with politics and the participation of the public with democracy, particularly in terms of voter turn out. The discussion afterwards is with the view to brainstorming some fantastic strategies to improve our situation. Phil anticipates a lively “think tank” with suggestions, feedback and question and answers.

Tea, coffee and chocolate biscuits will be served! You only need to bring your thinking cap!
